Sergeant Robert G. Woods
Germantown Police Department
July 17, 1976

On July 17th, 1976, Germantown Police Sergeant Robert G. Woods was responding to a domestic disturbance when he suffered a major coronary event.

After arriving at the scene and finding that the suspect was being extremely uncooperative, he had called for backup. Soon after that, his Police Chief showed up, and that’s when the two officers began struggling with the man as they attempted to subdue and arrest him. But due to the extreme exertion involved, Sergeant Woods suddenly collapsed from a massive heart attack. All attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Robert died soon afterwards.

Sergeant Woods was 47 years old at the time of his death, and had served with the Germantown Police Department for just one year. He was survived by his wife, three sons, a sister, and two brothers.

Robert had previously served as Chief of the Moraine Police Department and with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
