6As another way of honoring the fallen by supporting their family and coworker survivors, every year we award a number of $1,000 college scholarships, which are presented during the Annual Memorial Ceremony. We give first priority to the children and relatives of fallen officers, followed by those of serving and retired officers. We also give special consideration to students planning on pursuingu2014and former scholarship recipients already majoring inu2014law enforcement-related degrees.

Bethany Himan
Bethany Himan—daughter of Sergeant Josh Himan of the Miamisburg Police Department—is a homeschool graduate with a 4.0 GPA. During that time she took college level classes while competing in varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball. Bethany will be attending Shawnee State University and studying to become a Physical Therapist Assistant while continuing her athletic career with the university’s softball team.
Braden Neubauer
Braden Neubauer—son of Deputy Chief Jason Neubauer of the Moraine Police Department—recently graduated from Bethel High School with a 3.8 GPA while competing in varsity football. He recently completed internships with both the Kettering and Moraine Police Departments, where he gained valuable hands-on experience in the field. Braden will be attending Capital University and studying Criminology, with the goal of building a career in law enforcement.
Emma Reed
Emma Reed—daughter of Special Agent Christopher Reed of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives—recently graduated from Centerville High School with a 4.32 GPA. During high school she was involved in numerous service activities and clubs, and was a member of the National Honor Society, Elk Connectors, Student Athletic Training, and the soccer team. Emma will be attending The Ohio State University and majoring in Health Sciences/Pre-Med.
Logan Sheldon
Logan Sheldon—son of Lieutenant Eric Sheldon of the Dayton Police Department—recently graduated from Tippecanoe High School with a 3.96 GPA. During high school he played tennis, was involved in weight lifting, and served for four years in the youth ministry at Troy’s Grace Baptist Church. He was also a member of a missions trip team that went to Utah. Logan will be attending Cedarville University and studying Biblical Studies.
Izabel Sopczak
Izabel Sopczak—daughter of Jonathan Sopczak of the Dayton Police Department, and stepdaughter of Matthew Jackson of the Riverside Police Department—recently graduated from Waynesville High School with a 3.7 GPA. During high school she was active in the National Honor Society, Leo Club, Letters of Love, Blood Cancer United, and the soccer and swim teams. Izabel will be attending Bowling Green State University and studying Nursing.
Ava Sucher
Ava Sucher—daughter of Chief Brandon Sucher of the Vandalia Police Department—recently graduated from Vandalia Butler High School with a 4.678 GPA, where she was the Class Valedictorian. She also served as Student Body President, played varsity volleyball, and was a member of the National Honor Society, JCOWA, and Octagon Club. Ava will be attending the University of Dayton and studying Nursing.
We strongly encourage any Montgomery County high school senior with family connections in the law enforcement community and/or an interest in pursuing a law enforcement career to apply for one of next year’s scholarships in late 2026.
